Finding God

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13

God promises that if we seek him, we will find him – and isn’t that the heart cry of every one of us? Truly, I believe that even unbelievers are seekers. We are all searching for something. I believe it’s God! So what does finding him look like? When we seek him, we find him – everywhere. We find him in himself: his nature, his Word to us, his mighty acts. We find him in others: believers living for him, authors and speakers teaching his truth, strangers unknowingly giving us some insight. We find him in our world: our circumstances, our experiences, creation itself. And we find him in ourselves: His Spirit lives in us, if we believe. What Easter Really Means: Justice

Justice and mercy. At first those things seem mutually exclusive. Dichotomies. But they are not! You can’t have love without justice. God loves us, but God’s justice prevents us from being with him – except for Jesus on the cross.

Today is Good Friday. It seems like a bit of a misnomer, doesn’t it? I mean, today we’re remembering the death of Jesus…

What Easter Really Means: Forgiveness

Spilled Milk

“Don’t cry over spilled milk.” The old adage that means we shouldn’t worry or get upset over something unimportant. It’s not the end of the world, because we can clean it up or fix it.

Spilled milk on the stove – just a drop! – in the shape of a heart…

How to Win an Argument

Last night, our daughter (kindergarten) told us she thought she was making people sad, that she wasn’t good but bad. She said that her friends don’t want to be her friends anymore and they don’t want to play with her. Naturally, we were just a tad concerned. She is a bright, sweet, generous soul who loves people and wants to be friends with everyone…

Messes, Failure and Other Gods

I worship the One True God. Idolatry is abhorrent to me. But what if I have other gods and I don’t even realize it? What am I putting before Him? Idol’s aren’t just wood and stone.

February 18. I’m sitting at the dining table reading my Bible and trying to “have quiet time”….

Icicles and Attitude

“March” in Michigan means “unexpected”. One week shone 60° and sunny. The weekend poured wet and windy, thunder shaking the sky. Then: 19° and icy.

The morning’s flow was less than smooth. I move slow and the clock moves fast. Up and down…
